5 Math and Science Apps for Summer Fun

This week's reviews include apps that focus on science, math, and reading!

This week’s reviews include apps that focus on science, math, and reading!

Marble Math

Marble Math is an excellent example of how to merge quality game design with significant educational value. This app works learners through the sequence of understanding the question, tapping into knowledge to form an answer and creating a strategy for navigating the gameplay maze. Getting answers wrong is not an issue here as it is highly motivating to learn through making errors too. Take time to read the information pages to learn about all the features and customize the problems and levels. One of the most engaging, educational math apps we have played to date.

StarTracker HD

StarTracker HD lets you explore space in this dynamic app. Hold up your device, tilt, move and turn to search the sky. View stars, planets, constellations and more with settings to customize the amount and content. The open-ended value of the app makes it great for kids, parents and sparking an interest in discovering more about space.

Tillie’s Time Shop

Tillie’s Time Shop uses an engaging story to help children learn about time. Activities in the app get kids moving the hands of the clock to see changes from day and night, add the numbers to the face of the clock and practice reading both simple digital and analog clocks. Use this app with your child to provide the instruction that is not provided in the app. A great way to introduce time to young children.

Where Do I Go?

Where Do I Go? is approved for KinderTown with a recommendation for parents to first play the app and if they like it, purchase the additional content for $2.99 (at the time of this review). We like how the app makes sorting and categorizing very engaging and meaningful for kids. The variety of areas pair well with the early learning experiences kids have in school. Our parent review team really liked this app for kids who need reinforcement for categorizing items. An app to invest in if it suits your child, not an app that will suit all children.

Reading Raven

Reading Raven is a self-paced, phonics-based reading instructional app for emergent (beginning) readers. This app has one of the strongest educational and design foundations we have seen. A variety of phonics instruction activities that keep children learning and interested. Lesson 1 is free, child safe and parent friendly. In-app purchases are available for lessons 2-5. Adults are thoughtfully given options for customizing their children’s learning experience and disabling the IAPs.
